PROPOLIS is a research project supported by the European Commission under the Fifth Framework Programme and contributing to the implementation of the key action "The City of Tomorrow and Cultural Heritage" within the thematic programme Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development. Contract number EVK4-1999-00005.

The objective of PROPOLIS is to research, develop and test integrated land use and transport policies, tools and comprehensive assessment methodologies in order to define sustainable long term urban strategies and to demonstrate their effects in European cities.

PROPOLIS is part of the LUTR cluster (Land Use and Transportation: Policies for the City of Tomorrow), which links six different projects in order to develop strategic approaches and methodologies in urban planning that promote more sustainable urban transport. This includes issues of transportation demand and related land use planning, the use of individual cars, and the promotion of alternative means of transportation. LUTR cluster info.
